WHAT IS A B CORP COMPANY?

We’re pretty sure that reusable coffee cups and bulk food shopping are on your sustainable radar. For want of a better word, there are certain elements of the sustainable movement that have become pretty ‘fashionable,’ as well as functional. As a sustainable brand we couldn’t be happier about the way things are moving at the moment, so many big companies are making moves to reduce their plastic waste and on an individual level the streets of London are full of busy commuters clinging onto their caffeine-filled keep cups and stainless steel water bottles for dear life.

As the consumer, we hold a lot of the power when it comes to instigating positive change. The expression “vote with your wallet” is usually taken to mean that we vote for whatever suits us better financially, but by choosing to spend our hard earned pennies on sustainable brands that are forces for good, then we, as the consumer, can create change.

Enter the B Corp Company. It’s likely a phrase that’s beginning to filter through your radar, especially if, like us, you’re making every effort to live a more conscious lifestyle.

“Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.” - bcorporation.net

B Corps aren’t just limited to those that produce things, cleaning products for example, but can literally be anything from a law firm to an electronics manufacturer. The key is that they are a new kind of business that balance purpose and profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment, and without hitting all of these credentials it’s impossible to get your B Corp certification.

So with the interest of voting with your wallet, we’re rounded up a few of our favourite B Corps that make incredible products and promote incredible change:

  3. Rebel Kitchen. A firm favourite in many plant-based households, Rebel Kitchen make delicious mylks and their cold turmeric latte is ridiculously good.

  4. Abel & Cole. Shun the supermarket’s over-use of single use plastic and get your veggies delivered by Abel & Cole instead. Eco-friendly and organic.

  5. Mindful Chef. Perfect for the busy workers amongst us, mindful chef is a food dleivery service that send you everything you need for your evening meal plus a handy recipe card. One of our fave eco-warriors, Madeleine Shaw, has a collaboration going with them at the moment. Give it a go!

  6. Proper Corn. For a healthy snack on the go or to take with you to the cinema. Our fave is the almond and peanut butter flavour.

  7. Divine Chocolate. The only fair trade chocolate company that is co-owned by the cacao growers themselves.
