THE CIRCULARITY PROJECT
During the month of November, we will be accepting worn down and broken swimwear from any brand (yes any!) which you would have otherwise thrown out. Read on to find out why, and a special thank you from us for doing so.
Did you know...?
350,000 tonnes, which is an estimated £140 million worth of used but still wearable clothing goes to landfill in the UK every year.
One study found the average Briton throws away about 3.1kg of textiles every year. With only 0.3kg of that being recycled and 0.4 kg sent to be reused.
The textiles that do end up in landfills can sit there for up to 200 years, and whilst decomposing, it emits methane - a greenhouse gas which is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
By doubling the life of your clothing from just one to two years, we can help reduce emissions from clothing production and disposal by as much as 24%.
What we’re doing to help
We all need to do our bit for the planet, and as a growing sustainable brand, we know we have the power to do more. That’s why, during the month of November, we will be accepting worn down and broken swimwear from any brand (yes any!) which you would have otherwise thrown out. And we alongside our factory will be sending them on to our recycling partner, to be recycled and repurposed into eco industrial products such as eco-carpet underlay. The idea is to keep precious materials that are no longer usable out of landfills and back in textile circulation.
And as a thank you for contributing and cutting down your waste, we will be sharing a 10% offer code to everyone who sends in their old and broken swimwear pieces. Because together, we can make a bigger impact.

The bigger picture and long term goal
This is just one step in the bigger picture. As this is more than one brand's ethos - this is about the planet and our oceans. We know this is not enough, but it’s a step in the right direction. Our long term goal is to eventually be fully circular, so in many years down the line you can send in your old Stay Wild pieces, once they’ve worn down, and we will be able to use this same material to create new Stay Wild designs. We are always making what we do better and more sustainable, as this is a journey and we are constantly evolving.
Why just swimwear?
We have a small London based factory so we need to limit capacity for now. But as we look to grow, we are aiming to launch this project long term next year.
